Media Formats and Limits

Soku supports a range of video and image formats for uploading to the Media Library. This page covers accepted file types, size limits, and automatic conversions that Soku applies to ensure compatibility across social media platforms.

Accepted Video Formats

FormatExtensionMax File Size
MPEG-4.mp4500 MB
QuickTime.mov500 MB
WebM.webm500 MB
Matroska.mkv500 MB
MP4 is the most widely supported format across all social platforms. If you are unsure which format to use, MP4 is the safest choice.

Accepted Image Formats

FormatExtensionMax File Size
JPEG.jpg, .jpeg50 MB
PNG.png50 MB
WebP.webp50 MB

Automatic Conversions

PNG to JPEG

When you upload a PNG image, Soku automatically converts it to JPEG format. This conversion happens in the background and ensures that your images are compatible with all supported social media platforms, since not every platform accepts PNG files in all contexts. The converted JPEG version is what gets stored in your Media Library and used when publishing.
If your image relies on transparency (which JPEG does not support), be aware that transparent areas will be filled with a white background during conversion.

Storage Locations

Uploaded files are stored in Firebase Storage under your user account:
Media TypeStorage Path
Videosusers/{uid}/videos/
Imagesusers/{uid}/images/

Platform-Specific Considerations

Different social media platforms have their own media requirements (resolution, aspect ratio, duration). Soku handles the publishing-side formatting, but for best results keep the following in mind:
ConsiderationRecommendation
Aspect ratio9:16 for vertical video (TikTok, Reels, Shorts), 16:9 for landscape (YouTube, Facebook), 1:1 for square (Instagram feed)
Video durationCheck each platform’s limits — for example, TikTok allows up to 10 minutes, YouTube Shorts up to 60 seconds
Image resolutionAt least 1080px on the shortest side for best quality across platforms
